Stop bringing white people down to bring up black people/“POC” 2k17.
Stop bringing men down to bring up women 2k17.
Stop bringing straight/cis people down to bring up LGBT 2k17.
and vise versa!!!
Bringing down people simply for existing is never okay. Leave that racist, sexist, [insert]phobic shit in 2k16. Peace out. ✌
No
I mean, you can be a hateful person if you want to but it doesn’t make people very appealing.
I love how POC is in quotations like we’re not real people lol
Oh man, you must have literally detatched your own arm from your body with that reach.
I put it in quotations because I find the term “POC” to be a bit odd. It really just means black people on tumblr so it seems redundant. What other conclusions are you going to reach for? You only have one arm left.
If the U.S. is such a terrible country, why’s everyone in such a tizzy over not being allowed in?
The U.S. is not a terrible country. Everyone is in such a tizzy over not being allowed in because they come here in high hopes to seek a better life and take advantage of numerous opportunities. When the U.S. impedes progress, that’s when people are not happy.
I served and I am currently serving with muslim soldiers that have brought or are aiming to bring their families to the States. They feel defeated knowing their efforts might be in vain. These soldiers are my NCOs, my battle buddies, and my life long family. They just don’t want progress to be impeded.
The common sentiment from many places abroad is that the United States is terrible. In certain countries if you walk around with the flag on your backpacks you can bet your ass will be mugged and beaten to near death. To not acknowledge that is kind of ridiculous. A country has borders, and plenty countries practice protection of its sovereignty (for a contemporary example look at Japan). Why is it so wrong for the United States to do so? Hell, we’ve been instating like policies for the longest while. Why is it so wrong now? It’s because the new administration is more forthcoming and the media hates them.
Is it nice to let people in to seek better lives yes it absolutely is. However, when it becomes a threat of national security we have every right to close our borders. When it becomes a threat to the fundamental principles our country stands on we have every right to close our borders (hell we were supposed to since the 60s which is what has caused a lot of these issues but that’s another story for another time). When we already have so many problems and a mired economy why would be taken on more issues that we can’t afford. We don’t live in an idealistic utopia where it’s like a vacuum and there’s world peace. We live in one where there’s people who actively seek the destruction of our country, our people, our laws. Forgive me if I don’t want to welcome those people with open arms. Furthermore we shouldn’t be further burdening our citizens with people who potentially want to kill them.
I should also state that I take no issue with a ban however important to underscore this isn’t a ban it’s a proposed moratorium until better legislation/policy is put into play. It’s disingenuous for people to call it such much like it’s disingenuous for people to call it a Muslim ban. Because it’s not otherwise you’ll see other countries with larger Muslim populations targeted. To people who like to cite other countries were the homes of terrorists these countries were the same countries Obama outlined a restriction for. These are the same countries that were targeted by Homeland Security within the past several years as countries of threat.
Progress implies moving forward and flourishing. The US isn’t impeding progress, the very thing people are proposing will promote regression. I know people constantly point to Europe as an example and are met with eye rolls. But the fact of the matter is the political, social and economic landscape has drastically changed there. Even by moderate individuals who are actually parading in the streets advocating for legislation to cater to their views. To brush that off is incredibly ill informed and absurd. People need to actually open their eyes and see what’s happening. The people in Europe have grown too nice and complacent and are facing the consequences for such actions. Some of these countries have actually closed their borders because of the issues that have ensued. We cannot afford to take this on and we should focus our efforts on taking care of our own.
Is it unfortunate that some people will potentially not be able to come? Yes it absolutely is. With protection there will be some collateral damage and in this case maybe their families will have to wait longer. It sounds callous but it’s the truth of the matter. Either way I don’t think this stay will last very long because there’s too many factors at play. However, I understand and do support the sentiment behind it.
Why do we lock our doors at night? Not because we hate the people outside but to protect our loved ones inside.
No one could possibly think like that, right? Wrong.
This girl from my hometown, who’s a cancer patient, is being harassed both online and in public for wearing turbans.
Here’s the original post for anyone who’s interested, it’s in Portuguese.
“I’m gonna tell you guys what happened yesterday so you’ll understand why I’m mad at this whole idea of cultural appropriation.
I was at the train station wearing a turban, feeling all cute, then I started to notice quite a few black women around, they were beautiful, by the way, that were giving me the side eye, as if to say “look at the white girl appropriating our culture”. Anyway, one of them came up to me and told me I shouldn’t wear a turban because I’m white. I took it off and told her “do you see how I’m bald? Well, it’s called cancer so I’ll wear whatever I want, goodbye”. I left and she just stood there looking dumbfounded. I honestly don’t understand what’s wrong with this society, oh my god.”
It didn’t stop there, though, people online weren’t happy with her using her disease “as an excuse” to “appropriate their culture” either. Here are a few comments and Tweets from various threads:
“You have cancer, that’s sad but okay, that doesn’t give you the right to appropriate a culture. You want to hide it? That’s fine. Wear a veil or something, but not a turban”
“A mistake? This isn’t a mistake, my friend. The only mistake was this unfortunate, ignorant and dishonest girl using her illness to legitimize a false situation that she made up to delegitimize a movement for black women and men. That’s all”
So, you’re a white girl who has cancer and you decide to wear a turban to feel better? Think again, sweety, that’s cultural appropriation and we all know feelings are a lot more important than your stupid cancer.
